Response to The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Turnbull’s First Speech

After listening to Mr. Turnbull’s first speech as Prime Minister I feel it appropriate to respond on behalf of all those that seek West Papua’s freedom.

Following is a link to part of the Prime Minister’s speech.

The Prime Minister’s speech focused on economics and mentioned phrases like the following:

  • Need for economic vision;
  • Seizing the opportunity;
  • Market freedom;
  • Being agile;
  • Taking advantage;
  • Volatility is our friend; and There has never been a more exciting time to be alive than today.
Furthermore, Mr. Turnbull’s government seeks to persuade Australia to follow its economic vision.

This speech did not give me any hope for West Papua’s freedom. The Prime Minister’s focus on economics, to me, means that government integrity will come second to economics every time. That is how it has been for the past 50 years regarding West Papua and, I hope I am wrong but, this is how it looks like it is going to continue under Mr. Turnbull's leadership.

Please let me borrow some of the content of the Prime Minister’s speech and apply it to how the Australian Government has treated its neighbour West Papua:

Indonesia wanted West Papua and so West Papua’s volatility was our friend and we seized the opportunity for economic gain. Our agility, uninhibited by integrity, enabled us to take away West Papua’s wealth and freedom. We took advantage of the moment. There has never been a more exciting time to die in West Papua than today. Furthermore, we seek to persuade Australia to follow this economic vision.

The FWPP is fed up with different government flavours of economic vision! What the FWPP wants and stands for is government integrity.

The Australian Government helped create the West Papua Genocide and is sustaining the Genocide. The plumb line for measuring government integrity is how quickly the government gives West Papua its freedom.

West Papua, Merdeka!

Leader of the Free West Papua Party
